5. Statistical classification of polarimetric ASAR images using GLCM as texture features. Actually, Earth surface classification is based on second order statistics i.e. features extracted from Grey Level Co-ocurance Matrices (GLCM). The image scenes used are of HH and HV polarization acquired at the same time instant. Our purpose is to evaluate existing features in the available data and further examine the classification performance of new features of similar nature. For this purpose, we use features extracted from each independent polarization but also features that result from the transition from the one polarization to the other. The former approach is a common one and has been extendedly used in the field of region classification. The latter, however has not been reported in the relevant literature.
